Let's Fix fair and solidary relations between the people in Germany and Ghana!
Let's network to shape the German-Ghanaian relations for the majority of the people and not only for the wealthy minority! In Ghana, citizens are uniting to form the hopeful movement "Fix our country" and create nationwide attention for their demand for politics for all Ghanaians and not only the small wealthy minority.

Godwin Kweku Tetteh Maulepe is a journalist involved in the production of opposition radio and television programs that reach the majority of Ghanaians. They do not side with the opposition in parliament. (At the end of this page he introduces himself.) The two major parties that have so far alternated in power are both parties of the oligarchic system, the profiteers of the country's neocolonial integration into the world system as a supplier of raw materials and a market for the industrialized countries. This integration provides a small minority of the population with high incomes. For the vast majority of the population, it does not provide good prospects for life, jobs, education, health care, or even food security. This also drives many young people from Ghana to migrate and flee.
The activities of Godwin Kweku Tetteh Maulepe and his comrades-in-arms are in opposition to this unjust system. They are a thorn in the side of the Ghanaian oligarchy and they try to intimidate the activists in many ways. They are experienced, however, and use the greater democratic leeway compared to many other African countries. They have won all the court cases brought against them so far.
The group is aware that journalism can provide impetus, an awareness of injustice and the need for change. But it also knows that it alone cannot bring about change: At most, perhaps, the voting out and replacement of the current government with the experience that this does not change anything for the people.
The group therefore relies on the direct non-partisan and cross-party self-organization of the vast majority of people for their own interests, such as jobs, social security, housing, education.
They used their media capabilities to support those people who had set out to build such a force.
Under the slogan "Fix the country," they organized their first major public action last year, a demonstration in the capital, ACCRA, a city of over a million people. Since then, the activists have been building links in all parts of the country and encouraging people there to join together in a non-partisan and non-partisan way. They organize educational work and strengthen the political competence of those interested in the regions. They encourage activists to engage in dialogue with political leaders at local, regional and national levels so that the latter demand measures and action programs from politicians to improve living conditions.
Right now, however, Ghana is learning that improvements need more than changes at home. The state is heavily in debt. Now the interest to be paid on the loans is rising, chapters are flowing off to high-interest countries, and the Ghanaian currency is losing value. It is becoming increasingly difficult for the country to service its loans and finance its social services at the same time. A similar situation in the 1980s led to drastic cuts in the health and education sectors.
So the people in the country also depend on international economic and financial policies to change: There, the focus must be on people and on securing social human rights, no longer on the interests of wealthy investors in their maximum profits. The same applies to international trade in raw materials and finished products.
However, only an international coalition that no longer allows the wealthy to play countries off against each other will be able to implement such an international change. And it must be organized by the populations themselves, so that the elites no longer agree at their expense to assert only their interests as privileged classes.
The group of journalists around Godwin, in consultation with representatives of "Fix the country" Ghana, therefore propose to strengthen international cooperation for the enforcement of decent living conditions in all countries. We can learn from each other what the challenges are in the different countries and how to achieve success for the people. There will certainly also be opportunities for direct support. In addition, in all countries we need to address the problems that affect us all, such as climate change, the growing gap between rich and poor, and the spread of war and violence. We also need to overcome through joint efforts the North-South world economic structure inherited from colonial times, which favors people in the global North at the expense of people in the global South and cannot be a basis for lasting peace.
We therefore want to bring forces together in 2023 to form the network "Let's fix our countries! Let's Fix our world!" network. We want to start with the cooperation of the Ghanaians and the International PeaceFactory Wanfried in Germany. We invite interested people from other countries to collaborate with us.
Godwin is in Germany until the end of the month.
We invite you to an online meeting via ZOOM on Tuesday, Jan. 17 at 6 p.m. and to a personal meeting at the International PeaceFactory in Wanfried on Jan. 25 at 11 a.m..
