Aufruf von Stop the War, Britannien: BETEILIGEN SIE SICH AN DEN KONTINENTWEITEN PROTESTEN AN DIESEM WOCHENENDE in London und vielen Städten Italiens, Portugals, Frankreichs, Spaniens, in Berlin. In der offiziellen Politik Großbritanniens und einiger anderer Länder mag es einen Konsens über die Notwendigkeit einer Eskalation in der Ukraine geben, aber in vielen Teilen Europas wächst der Widerstand gegen den Krieg unter den einfachen Menschen. In Italien ergab eine neue Umfrage, dass eine Mehrheit gegen Waffenlieferungen an die Ukraine ist. Umfragen in Deutschland im Januar ergaben, dass "die Öffentlichkeit zunehmend kriegsmüde ist und sich langsam aber sicher mehr Sorgen um ihre eigene wirtschaftliche Lage macht".
Kein Wunder also, dass am Jahrestag der russischen Invasion am kommenden Wochenende zahlreiche Proteste auf dem ganzen Kontinent stattfinden werden, so dass die Londoner Demonstration Teil eines europaweiten Aktionswochenendes sein wird, an dem Friedensgespräche gefordert werden.
Die Veranstaltungen beginnen in Italien am Abend des 23. Februar mit einem Marsch von Perugia nach Assisi.
Rafaella Bolini von der italienischen Friedensbewegung geht davon aus, dass es am 24. und 25. Februar in mindestens hundert Städten Proteste geben wird, mit einer Großkundgebung in Rom am Samstag, den 25. Februar. In Italien ist die Stimmung gegen Waffenlieferungen an die Ukraine sehr gereizt, die Bewegung mobilisiert überall", sagte sie.
In Portugal sind Demonstrationen in sieben Städten geplant. In Wien findet am 24. Februar ein Protest statt, in Zürich am 25. Februar ein weiterer. In Deutschland finden in zwanzig Städten Proteste statt, darunter eine Großdemonstration in Berlin.
Am Sonntag, den 26. Februar, findet eine Demonstration in Brüssel statt, und am Wochenende gibt es Proteste in ganz Frankreich.
Mindestens zwanzig Städte in Spanien werden Proteste für den Frieden unter dem Motto "Weder Putin noch die NATO" abhalten.

JOIN THE CONTINENT-WIDE PROTESTS THIS WEEKEND… There may be a consensus in official politics in Britain and some other countries about the need to escalate in Ukraine, but there is growing opposition to the war amongst ordinary people in many parts of Europe. In Italy, a recent poll showed majority opposition to supplying weapons to Ukraine. Polling in Germany in January found ‘growing evidence of a public that is war-weary, and one that is slowly but surely becoming more concerned about their own economic condition’. No wonder then that the anniversary of the Russian invasion this coming weekend will see a huge number of protests across the continent meaning that the London demonstration will be part of a Europe-wide weekend of action calling for peace talks. Events start in Italy on the evening of 23rd February with a march from Perugia to Assisi. Rafaella Bolini from the Italian peace movement predicts there will be protests in at least one hundred towns and cities on the 24th and 25th February, with a mass rally in Rome on Saturday 25th. ‘Feeling in Italy is running high against supplying arms to Ukraine, the movement is mobilising everywhere’ she said. In Portugal, demonstrations are planned in seven cities. In Vienna, there is a protest on 24th February and another in Zurich on the 25th. Twenty cities in Germany are holding protests including a major demonstration in Berlin. There will be a demonstration in Brussels on Sunday 26th and protests across France over the weekend. At least twenty cities in Spain will hold protests for peace with the tagline ‘neither Putin nor NATO’.
