They accuse the wrong people: Germany's policy was naive! Not towards Russia, but towards the USA
Aktualisiert: 27. Juni 2022
Published opinion criticizes politicians who have advocated or are advocating détente and cooperation with the Soviet Union and Russia. They were naive, did not recognize Russia's real goals and led Germany into Russian dependence. Gerhard Schröder was publicly pilloried for this.
I am of the opinion that we in Germany were naive. Whether it was the politicians, I cannot judge, perhaps they simply did not see any greater political leeway for Germany. Maybe they just tried to get out what they could. Also because they knew how easily society could be mobilized against them by the media if they did not support the course of the prevailing forces in the United States. So I see a naivety of the German polity and society not towards the Soviet Union and Russia, but towards the forces prevailing in the USA.
I remember the report of a German politician about negotiations with US-Americans: At first they pretend to be best friends, but if one opposes their demands, they quickly become very uncompromising and determined and in the end resort to personal blackmail.
John Perkins has revealed to us that this approach is common in U.S. politics toward politicians in the global South. There, according to Perkins, political assassinations or military interventions are also used to enforce the interests of U.S. corporations https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FfWcZJtP6NI, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wjjsvOiVuoo.

The US sociologist, C. Wright Mills, in his study of the U.S. elite, has spoken of a systematic media campaign to whitewash and obfuscate U.S. policy, especially in countries - such as the Federal Republic and Japan - whose potential the U.S. wanted to use against the Soviet Union Link: https://archive.org/details/c_wright_mills_the_power_elite, https://bawar.net/download/index/553
Thede media campaigns have been successful: despite the horrific wars of aggression and coups for which U.S. policy is responsible. In our country, only those who are very interested in politics know anything about this, and it is no different in the USA.

The US-American, William Blum, has revealed much about it to us in his two books "Rogue State" and "Killing Hope". He had started working in the US State Department as an anti-communist and then learned that the US does all the things itself that it accuses the communists and the Soviet Union of doing. Until his death, he documented this for the U.S. and international public.
William Blum describes how the transfiguration works: A de facto censorship, leaves so many Americans illiterate about U.S. foreign relations. It is probably all the more effective, he says, because it is not official, heavy-handed, and conspiratorial, but is cleverly woven into the fabric of education and the media. "There is no need for a conspiracy at all. The editors of the Reader's Digest and U. S. News and World Report need not at all conspiratorially meet with representatives of the NBC network in an FBI safe house to agree on next month's reports and programs. For it is simply the case that these persons would never have reached their present positions had they not all themselves already been led through this tunnel of misdirection and emerged from it with the same selective memory and the same destined knowledge."

When German politicians came to the United States excited by the vision of a common, peaceful, social, and democratic Europe after 1990, they were met with a very different view: we had won the Cold War, defeated Russians, and defeated communism.
Many German politicians had fallen for the glorification of U.S. policy, just as William Blum once did, that it was about democracy and human rights. They did not understand that they saw the vision of Gorbachev and the "Charter of Paris" - the building of a common democratic, peaceful and social Europe - as a threat to the global dominance claimed by many in the U.S. elite. They sought to capitalize on the Cold War victory: With the troublesome competitor, the Soviet Union, gone, they began waging war around the world to seize raw material areas and also intervened in Europe in Yugoslavia.
Enlightenment about these connections is necessary, so that we in Germany and Europe can find our own way. US-American enlighteners like Blum, Mills or Snoden can help us and show that we are not anti-Americans, but critics of violent, imperial politics, like many US-Americans.
This imperial policy is ultimately the background of the Ukraine war and the social catastrophe into which we in Europe and Germany are currently being driven.
We cannot counter this policy with visions alone or by insisting on the UN Charter and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. We need to build a solid alliance against imperial politics and for a world of equal states, in society and politics.
Let's do it,
