The 66-year-old took over the highest state office from his predecessor Akufo-Addo in the capital Accra. In his inaugural address, Mahama called for a comprehensive fresh start in Ghana. The country has been in an economic crisis since 2022.
Mahama had won the December election by a landslide. His party, the National Democratic Congress, also secured a comfortable majority in parliament. Mahama was previously president of Ghana from 2012 to 2017.
