Arikana Chihombori-Quao ist eine Ärztin und Aktivistin. Sie ist eine öffentliche Rednerin, Pädagogin, Diplomatin, Gründerin medizinischer Kliniken und Unternehmerin. Sie zog in die Vereinigten Staaten, nachdem sie viele Jahre in Simbabwe gelebt hatte. Sie ist CEO und Gründerin von Bell Family Medical Centers in den Vereinigten Staaten und war von 2017 bis 2019 Vertreterin der Afrikanischen Union in den USA.[1] Sie hat einen Bachelor-Abschluss in allgemeiner Chemie, einen Master-Abschluss in organischer Chemie und einen Doktortitel in Medizin.[2][3] Chihombori war Fachärztin für Familienmedizin in Tennessee. Sie praktizierte 29 Jahre lang als Ärztin in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.[4][5]
Chihombori spricht offen über die Auswirkungen der Berliner Konferenz, die 1885 in Berlin, Deutschland, stattfand. Sie hält Vorträge über die Folgen der Spaltungen, die auf dem afrikanischen Kontinent vorgenommen wurden. Sie sieht diese Spaltungen als Ursache für einige der Probleme Afrikas, die noch heute bestehen. Sie versucht, die afrikanischen Staaten und die afrikanische Diaspora wieder zu vereinen[5].
Frühes Leben
Chihombori wuchs in dem Dorf Chivhu in Simbabwe auf. Sie wanderte 1977 in die USA aus.[6][7]
Karriere
Chihombori ist Absolventin der Fisk University und des Meharry Medical College. Sie absolvierte eine Facharztausbildung in Familienmedizin am Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee.[Bearbeiten]
Sie hat einen Bachelor-Abschluss in Allgemeiner Chemie, einen Master-Abschluss in Organischer Chemie und einen Doktortitel in Medizin. Ihren Abschluss machte sie 1986 am Meharry Medical College of Medicine. Ihr Spezialgebiet war die Familienmedizin.[2] Sie ist die Gründerin von medizinischen Kliniken. Als Unternehmerin erwarb sie Grundstücke, auf denen ein in den USA ansässiges Afrika-Haus errichtet wurde. Sie ist die Eigentümerin des Durban Manor Hotel Cultural House in Durban, Südafrika[1].
Von 1996 bis 2012 war Chihombori-Quao medizinische Direktorin von Mid Tenn Medical Associates und des Smyrna Ambulance Service.
Sie ist die zweite Ständige Vertreterin der Afrikanischen Union, die diese Position innehat. Botschafterin Amina Salum Ali war zuvor Botschafterin der AU in den USA. Seit 2012 ist sie Vorsitzende der Gesundheitsinitiative der Afrikanischen Union und der afrikanischen Diaspora (AU-ADHI)[8][9].
Von 2012 bis 2016 war Chihombori-Quao Vorsitzende der Gesundheitsinitiative der Afrikanischen Union und der afrikanischen Diaspora (AU-ADHI). Als Vorsitzende der AU-ADHI ist sie für die Mobilisierung von Gesundheitsfachkräften aus der afrikanischen Diaspora zuständig, die bei der Bewältigung der kontinentalen Gesundheitskrise in Afrika helfen.
Seit 2010 ist Chihombori-Quao internationale Vorsitzende des African Union-Diaspora African Forum Americas (AU-DAF). In dieser Funktion setzt sie sich dafür ein, dass Afrikaner und Freunde Afrikas an der Entwicklung Afrikas teilhaben.[9]
Im Januar 2019 startete Chihombori-Quao das "Wakanda One Village Project". Das Projekt wird in Sambia und in Simbabwe beginnen. Beide Länder haben Landangebote gemacht. Das Wakanda-Projekt zielt darauf ab, Afrikaner in der Diaspora einzubinden.
Das "Wakanda One Village Project" soll aus fünf afrikanischen Exzellenzzentren in den fünf Regionen des afrikanischen Kontinents bestehen. Die fünf Zentren sollen Entwicklungszentren sein, die über hochmoderne Gesundheitseinrichtungen, Hotels, Industrieheime, Einkaufszentren usw. verfügen[10][11][12]
Am 7. Oktober 2019 wurde ihr per Brief mitgeteilt, dass sie nicht mehr Botschafterin der Afrikanischen Union in Washington ist. Es wurde eine Online-Petition gestartet, um die Wiedereinsetzung von Chihombori-Quao zu erreichen. Das Schreiben des Vorsitzenden der Afrikanischen Union, Moussa Faki Mahamat, an Chihombori-Quao vom 7. Oktober 2019 wurde ebenfalls online veröffentlicht.[13][14]
Auszeichnungen
2015 erhielt Chihombori-Quao auf dem Gipfeltreffen der Afrikanischen Union den "Women of Excellence Award"[15] Arikana Chihombori-Quao: Mein Mandat ist es, Afrika in Amerika zu fördern und, was noch wichtiger ist, die afrikanische Diaspora zu mobilisieren - also alle Menschen afrikanischer Abstammung, die außerhalb Afrikas leben.
Sie ist Fellow der American Academy of Family Physicians und hat mehrere Auszeichnungen erhalten[16].
Im Jahr 1996 wurde sie vom verstorbenen Präsidenten der Republik Südafrika, Nelson Mandela, für ihre Verdienste um Afrika ausgezeichnet[16].

Arikana Chihombori-Quao is a medical doctor and activist. She is a public speaker, educator, diplomat, founder of medical clinics, and an entrepreneur. She moved to the United States after living many years in Zimbabwe. She is the CEO and founder of Bell Family Medical Centers in the United States, and served as the African Union representative to the US from 2017 to 2019.[1] She holds a bachelor's degree in General Chemistry, a master's degree in organic chemistry, and a Doctor of Medicine degree.[2][3] Chihombori was a family medicine specialist in Tennessee. She practiced medicine for 29 years in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.[4][5]
Chihombori is outspoken about the implications of the Berlin Conference that took place in Berlin, Germany, in 1885. She lectures about the outcome of the divisions on the continent of Africa that were made. She sees these divisions as a cause of some of Africa's problems that are still in effect today. She seeks to reunite African states,[clarification needed] and the African diaspora.[5]

Chihombori is a graduate of Fisk University and Meharry Medical College. She did a residency in Family Medicine at Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee.[citation needed]
She holds a bachelor's degree in General Chemistry, a master's degree in organic chemistry, and a Doctor of Medicine degree. She graduated from Meharry Medical College of Medicine in 1986. Her specialty was family medicine.[2] She is the founder of medical clinics. As an entrepreneur she purchased property that built a US-based Africa House. She is the owner of the Durban Manor Hotel Cultural House in Durban, South Africa.[citation needed]
From 1996 to 2012 Chihombori-Quao was the Medical Director for Mid Tenn Medical Associates, and the Smyrna Ambulance Service
She is the second African Union Permanent Representative to hold that position. Ambassador Amina Salum Ali was the prior AU - US Ambassador. She is the Chair of the African Union-African Diaspora Health Initiative (AU-ADHI), since 2012.[8][9]
From 2012 to 2016, Chihombori-Quao served as the Chair of the African Union-African Diaspora Health Initiative (AU-ADHI). As the chair of the AU-ADHI her work involves mobilizing Africans in the Diaspora health professionals in assisting with Africa's continental healthcare crisis.
Since 2010, Chihombori-Quao has been the International Chair of the African Union-Diaspora African Forum Americas (AU-DAF). In this capacity she advocates for Africans and friends of Africa to participate in the development of Africa.[9]
In January 2019, Chihombori-Quao launched the "Wakanda One Village Project". The project will begin in Zambia and in Zimbabwe. Both of these countries have made offers of land. The Wakanda project seeks to engage Africans in the Diaspora.
The "Wakanda One Village Project", is slated to consist of five African Centers of excellence in the five regions on the continent of Africa. The five centers are to be centers of development to have state-of-the-art healthcare facilities, hotels, industrial homes, shopping centers, etc.[10][11][12]
On October 7, 2019, she received notice by letter that she was no longer ambassador for the African Union in Washington. An online petition was started for Chihombori-Quao to be reinstated. The letter, from African Union chair Moussa Faki Mahamat to Chihombori-Quao, dated October 7, 2019, was also published online.[13][14]
Awards[edit]
In 2015, at the African Union Summit - Chihombori-Quao received the "Women of Excellence Award".[15] Arikana Chihombori-Quao: My mandate is to promote Africa in the Americas and more importantly, to mobilise the African diaspora - meaning all people of African descent living outside of Africa.
A Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians recipient of several awards.[16]
In 1996 she was awarded achievement award by the late President Nelson Mandela of the Republic of South Africa for her contributions to Africa.[citation needed]
